Wellington

Finally i am on the North Island. This is my second day in Wellington and I am still loving the city. It’s the most beautiful city in New Zealand, maybe the most beautiful of the world.

I spent hours just walking around, discovering Wellington : The buildings are just beautiful, there are many statues and a lot of parks.

In my hostel I met a group of German girls. Together in the evening we went on the top of the Victoria Hill. From there you had a look all over the city. We sat down drinking beer and talking about the meaning of life.

Today some informtion about the hostel office :

The office is a house with one big room and two smaller ones. It also got a toilet, a few computers  and a coffee machine. On a board all the appointments of the boys are written.

In the office are working :
  •     Helen, the secretary
  •        Roger, the hostel manager
  •        Ross, the second hostel manager

While Roger is working in his small room, Helen has to organize appointments for the boys, answer to parents and play nurse to decide if a boy is really sick or just wants to get off from school. Ross is mostly working outside and just gets into the office to give me another job.

The office is my main working place. My main duties are washing the dishes, making coffee and vecuming the floor. Besides I’m taking phonecalls, answer to students and organize prep. (Prep, preparation, is time which the students spent sitting in a room doing homework)

That's the desk, on which Helen is working. In the backround you are seeing the board with the appointments. Helen's computer is locked with a password nobody else knows. So we always have to use other computers.

This is Roger, our Hostel manager. Sadly he is one of the staff members which is leaving the Hostel after the Christmas holidays. He is going to open a design shop in Oamaru.

Last day of school

I’ve decided to speak and write more English than before. It should help me to get better in the language. That’s why my blog is going to be written in English from now on.

Today was the last day of school….finally. After a short cleaning marathon in the dorms the students slowly left. After 5pm also the last one was gone. The remaining staff sat down and enjoyed some fish and chips.
After that nothing was left to do for today. We all went back home, happy about the beginning holidays. I spent the evening watching some movies, jogging and writing this text for my blog. Tomorrow I plan to write another article about the hostel. I think I am going to tell you about the office and the workshop.

I am looking forwards to exciting holidays without the 70 boys. It’s amazing how free you feel without these little demons around you. It’s like a secret organization to make my life hell finally took some time off.
I am planning to spend the holidays hitchhiking and doing a work experience in a veterinarian clinic. Because I am sleeping in hostels instead of a leaking tent, I gonna be able to write more articles for my blog than in the autumn holidays.
